how would it have been different?
We'd be spending hours feeding punchcards into our enormously expensive
computers thinking about how much fun we were gonna have only to find
that after we finally programmed out outrageously expensive modem, used
the rotary-dial phone to get on the internet, and plugged the handset
into the little rubber cup modem, that rspw didn't FRIGGIN' EXIST YET!
Well, YOU'RE no fun!

I quote Edward Rooney's secretary in Ferris Bueller's Day Off when I say
"It's true".

Sadly, while many of us may not have been indulging in promiscuous sex
with people we barely knew, we'd likely be experimenting with
mind-altering substances.

All while we were on an internet constructed with millions of strands of
string and tin cans connected at either end.
